Sisters of Service (SOS)

SOS is a Women’s Ministry at First Baptist Church.  Our mission is to provide a ministry that cultivates spiritual and
personal growth and is specifically focused on the needs of Christian women at First Baptist Church of Augusta and in the
CSRA. With the help of the Holy Spirit, the Sisters of Service Women’s Ministry (SOS) will enrich, empower, and enhance
women’s lives through fellowship and the study and application of God’s word.

SOS service opportunities at FBC have included A Word for Women computer classes in Microsoft Word, Women of
Power computer classes in Microsoft Power Point, Simply Internet computer classes, and an extended computer boot camp
to teach Microsoft Office programs, web design, and other useful computing skills.  Members of the ministry participated in
service opportunities in our Church and community, including the Lydia Project, Full Circle Refuge and the Salvation Army
Women’s Coat Drive at Christmas.  The group also hosted a lunch and Bible Study at St. Johns Towers.

In May, SOS will continue to offer its series of Saturday morning computer classes.  Seating is limited (only 15 spaces are
available), so call the Church office now to reserve your spot.

In 2008, we began “
The Christian Woman-- Nurturing a Godly Heritage” series which explores how Christian women
should nurture our Godly heritage, both spiritually and physically .  We kicked off the series with a Prayer Breakfast on
January 19th at 9:30am in the Grill at First Baptist Church.  Ellen Underwood began the series with  a discussion of "The
Christian Woman -- Understanding her Jewish Roots".

SOS activities and meetings are suspended for the summer.  Monthly events will resume in August, 2008.  Watch for
additional details or contact Susan Perkins at the Church Office at (706) 733-2236 or Peggie Koon via email at:

Did you know...that the call letters, “S.O.S.”, are internationally known to indicate a call for help?
The name "SOS" is appropriate since the ministry is especially for Sisters in Christ, women who have been
called by God, to serve other women at FBC, in our community, and the world.
